Kalinskaya through in Cincinnati after 7-6 1-6 with Cirstea
Anna Kalinskaya moved into the next round of the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati after an abbreviated last-32 meeting with Sorana Cirstea, the Russian taking the opening set in a tiebreak before the Romanian levelled 6-1 and the match went no further. The serve numbers explained the swing: Cirstea struck nine aces and won 78.7 percent of her first-serve points, but landed only 61 percent of them and took just 36.7 percent behind the second. Kalinskaya, without an ace and with five double faults, stayed competitive by winning 46.9 percent of her second-serve points. The result kept her alive at a marquee hard-court event.
