Svitolina recovers from a set down to beat Valentova in Cincinnati
Elina Svitolina lost the opening set 3-6 but turned the match around, edging a second-set tiebreak 7-6 before racing through a 6-0 decider against Tereza Valentova in the Cincinnati round of 64. The serve told much of the story: Svitolina struck six aces to none for her opponent and won 62.9 percent of her first-serve points, against 57.4 for Valentova. The Czech landed more first serves, 68.7 percent to 64.2, but was undone behind the second ball, winning just 35.5 percent of those points and coughing up eight double faults to Svitolina's four. The comeback carried Svitolina into the next round of a WTA 1000.
