Tiafoe eases past Sonego 6-3 6-4 in Cincinnati second round
Frances Tiafoe controlled his Round of 64 match in Cincinnati, beating Lorenzo Sonego 6-3 6-4 without ever letting the Italian into the contest. The American's first serve landed only 54.5 percent of the time, but it was close to untouchable when it did, bringing him 90 percent of those points, and even his second delivery held up at 68 percent. He struck four aces and, crucially, never double faulted. Sonego was the more reliable server on paper, with 66 percent first serves in and seven aces, yet won just 56.2 percent behind his second ball. The result sent Tiafoe into the third round on a surface that suits him.
