Xiyu Wang rallies past Leylah Fernandez in Cincinnati opener
Xiyu Wang lost the opening set 3-6 but turned the Cincinnati first round around completely, sweeping the next two 6-2, 6-2 to eliminate Canada's Leylah Fernandez. The difference was the second ball: Wang won 55% of her second-serve points while Fernandez managed just 36%, and the Canadian's eight double faults handed over free points at the worst moments. Wang also landed 69.7% of her first serves and won 65.2% of those points, giving her cheap holds once the momentum shifted. It was a resilient recovery that carried her into the second round of a WTA 1000.
