Wang Qiang rallies past Vekic in three sets in Cincinnati
Qiang Wang recovered from a set down to beat Donna Vekic 3-6 6-1 6-4 in the Round of 64 in Cincinnati. After dropping the opener, the Chinese player took control behind a punishing first delivery, winning 75.5 percent of the points behind it against 64.0 percent for Vekic, and that gap decided the middle set, which went 6-1. Wang landed 59.8 percent of her first serves to Vekic's 61.7, and her eight double faults never proved costly because the second-serve returns stayed close, 45.5 to 45.2. Vekic's five aces to Wang's three were not enough.
