Tauson edges Stearns in three sets in Cincinnati opener
Clara Tauson came through a jagged three-set battle against Peyton Stearns 7-6 1-6 7-5 in the Round of 64 in Cincinnati. The Dane's serve was both weapon and liability: 13 aces against 10 double faults, with 65.1% of first serves landing and 61.0% of those points won, but only 36.4% behind the second ball. Stearns found the court less often, at 55.9% first serves in, yet won a higher share of them at 64.9%, and her 1-6 second set showed how quickly the momentum swung. Tauson's steadier first-serve percentage carried her through the decider and into the next round.
