Navarro rallies past Kalinina in three sets in Cincinnati
Emma Navarro dropped the opening set but turned the match around to beat Anhelina Kalinina 3-6 6-4 6-2 in the Round of 64 in Cincinnati. The American's serve was the swing factor: she struck 15 aces to Kalinina's two and won 81.6% of her first-serve points, comfortably clear of the Ukrainian's 70.2%. It was a high-risk pattern, with only 53.3% of first serves landing and seven double faults, and behind the second delivery Navarro won just 34.9% compared with Kalinina's 43.3%. Once the free points started flowing, though, the home player controlled the closing set and moved into the next round.
