Atmane edges Etcheverry 6-3 7-6 in Cincinnati opening round
Terence Atmane came through in straight sets against Tomas Martin Etcheverry, 6-3 7-6, in the Cincinnati round of 64, needing a tie-break to close out a second set that neither man wanted to release. The Frenchman's serve carried him: 10 aces, 81.8% of first-serve points won and a striking 65.6% behind the second, enough to cover a modest 57.9% first-serve rate and three double faults. Etcheverry answered with six aces, no double faults and 86.2% won on first serve, but landed only 53.7% of them. Atmane's reward was a place in the second round of a Masters 1000.
