Parry rallies past Mertens in three sets in Cincinnati
Diane Parry recovered from a one-set deficit to beat Elise Mertens 2-6 6-2 6-2 in the Round of 64 in Cincinnati, turning an ugly opening set into a comfortable finish. The swing came on serve: the Frenchwoman landed 57.9% of her first deliveries and won 75.0% of those points, while Mertens managed just 54.1% first serves in and 54.3% of points behind them. Both struck a single ace, and Mertens' five double faults outnumbered Parry's four. The result gave Parry a win over an established opponent at a WTA 1000 event on hard courts.
