Xiyu Wang takes Cincinnati opener 6-0 over Timofeeva
Xiyu Wang needed just one set to settle her opening-round match at the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati, running out a 6-0 winner over Maria Timofeeva. The serve numbers explained the shutout: Wang landed 65.1% of her first deliveries and won 67.9% of those points, while also taking 53.3% behind her second ball. Timofeeva, by contrast, found the box with only 39.1% of her first serves and won just 33.3% of them, adding three double faults to Wang's two. Neither player struck an ace. For Wang, it was as clean a start as the draw could offer.
