Gibson edges Tagger in three sets in Cincinnati opener
Talia Gibson came from a set down to beat Lilli Tagger 4-6 6-1 7-5 in the opening round in Cincinnati, the Australian turning the match around after a ragged start. Her first serve landed just 48.1 percent of the time, but when it did she won 74.0 percent of those points, and eight aces helped offset seven double faults. Tagger was the cleaner server on paper, finding 59.1 percent of first deliveries and striking 11 aces, yet only 36.1 percent of her second-serve points went her way, and that gap decided the deciding set. It was a hard-earned place in the second round for Gibson.
