Snigur beats Starodubtseva 6-4 6-3 in Cincinnati first round
Daria Snigur controlled an all-Ukrainian opening-round meeting in Cincinnati, seeing off Yuliia Starodubtseva 6-4 6-3 without ever losing the thread of either set. The difference sat in the first-serve column: Snigur landed 62.5% of her first deliveries and won 72.5% of those points, while Starodubtseva managed only 51.5% in and 57.1% won behind them. Starodubtseva was the steadier of the two in one respect, with a single double fault to Snigur's four and 60.6% of her second-serve points won, but she never found an ace to relieve the pressure. The win carried Snigur into the second round of the WTA 1000.
