Bouzas Maneiro edges Bondar 6-3 7-6 in Cincinnati opener
Jessica Bouzas Maneiro came through her opening match at the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati, beating Anna Bondar 6-3, 7-6 in a contest that tightened considerably after the Spaniard took the first set. The difference lay in the second-serve exchanges: Bouzas Maneiro won 48.3 percent of her points behind the second ball, while Bondar managed only 35.7 percent, a gap that outweighed the Hungarian's five aces and her 73.0 percent behind the first serve. Neither player found rhythm on first delivery, Bouzas Maneiro landing 57.4 percent and Bondar 56.9. Eight double faults did not cost the winner her place in the second round.
