Pablo Carreno Busta needed only two comfortable sets to see off Tomas Machac 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 128 in Cincinnati, controlling the match from the outset and never allowing the Czech a foothold. The difference came on second serve, where the Spaniard won 57.7 percent of his points against just 41.7 percent for Machac, who also managed only 58.6 percent behind his first delivery. Carreno Busta landed just 50.9 percent of first serves and coughed up five double faults, yet still took 66.7 percent of those first-serve points. It was an efficient start to his hard-court campaign.
