Altmaier fights back to beat Wong in three at Cincinnati

Daniel Altmaier recovered from a set down to edge Chak Lam Coleman Wong 3-6 6-3 6-4 in the Cincinnati first round. The German's steadier delivery decided it: he landed 61.5% of first serves and won 73.2% of those points, and crucially took 51.4% behind his second ball. Wong was the bigger hitter on serve with 11 aces to Altmaier's nine and an excellent 78.7% of first-serve points won, but he found only 53.4% of first serves, and behind the second he won just 39% while coughing up seven double faults to Altmaier's three. The comeback earned Altmaier a place in the second round.
