Shapovalov downs Mannarino 6-1 6-4 in Cincinnati opener
Denis Shapovalov needed just two efficient sets to see off Adrian Mannarino 6-1 6-4 in the Cincinnati first round, running away with the opener before holding firm through a tighter second. The Canadian's delivery set the tone: nine aces, 66.1 percent of first serves in and 73 percent of those points won, with a solid 52.6 percent behind the second ball. Mannarino, by contrast, landed only 55 percent of first serves and won a meagre 29.6 percent behind his second, a leak Shapovalov attacked repeatedly. Both men struck four double faults, but only one was punished. A clean start to the Masters 1000 for Shapovalov.
