Struff outlasts Burruchaga in three sets in Cincinnati opener
Jan-Lennard Struff came through a three-set opening-round test at the Cincinnati Masters 1000, edging Roman Burruchaga 7-6 2-6 6-3 on hard courts. The German's serve was the swing factor in both directions: 16 aces against 12, but only 54.0% of first serves landed and eight double faults crept in, and when he was forced to a second ball he won just 44.2% of those points, which explained the second-set collapse. Behind the first delivery he was the sharper man, taking 75.4% to Burruchaga's 72.6%, and that edge held up in the decider. Struff moves into the second round.
