Kalinina fights back to beat Vidmanova in Cincinnati opener
Anhelina Kalinina recovered from a set down to defeat Darja Vidmanova 4-6 6-4 6-2 in the first round of the WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati. The Ukrainian's serve was the difference over the long haul: she landed 66.7% of her first deliveries and won 70% of those points, against 54.3% and 60% for Vidmanova, whose lower first-serve accuracy left her exposed on a second ball that yielded just 38.1%. Kalinina struck six aces but paid for seven double faults and only 40% behind her second serve. It was still enough to reach the second round.
