Halys edges Kwon in three sets to reach Cincinnati qualifying final
Quentin Halys recovered from a set down to beat Soon Woo Kwon 4-6 7-6 6-4 in the Cincinnati qualifying semifinals. The Frenchman's serve carried him through the tight moments: he struck 18 aces to Kwon's 9 and won 92.9% of the points behind his first delivery, a decisive edge over the Korean's 86.3%. Neither man was reliable at finding the box, Halys landing 55.4% of first serves against 53.7% for Kwon, and both dropped six double faults, but Kwon's superior second-serve return of 59.1% was not enough. Halys moved a win from the main draw.
