Lajovic edges Bonzi in two tiebreaks in Cincinnati qualifying

Dusan Lajovic came from a set down to beat Benjamin Bonzi 2-6 7-6 7-6 in the Cincinnati qualifying semifinals, surviving two tiebreaks after a one-sided opener. The Serb's steadier delivery was the difference over the distance: he landed 68.8% of first serves to Bonzi's 61.3%, and won 78.7% of those points against the Frenchman's 78.5%. Bonzi struck 11 aces to Lajovic's seven and was the better second-serve player, winning 58.5% behind it compared with 44.1%, but with five double faults apiece he could not convert that edge in the shootouts. The win carried Lajovic into the final qualifying round.
