Charaeva beats Marino 6-3 6-3 in Cincinnati qualifying
Alina Charaeva controlled her qualifying semifinal in Cincinnati from start to finish, seeing off Rebecca Marino 6-3 6-3 in a straight-sets win built on the serve. The Russian landed 65 percent of her first deliveries and won 74.4 percent of those points, striking four aces against three double faults. Marino, by contrast, found only 52.8 percent of her first serves and won just 53.6 percent behind them, a shortfall that left the Canadian under constant pressure in her service games. Two identical sets later, Charaeva had moved within one match of the Cincinnati main draw.
