Bu Yunchaokete came through a tight two-setter in the Cincinnati qualifying semifinals, taking the opener 7-6 before closing out a 6-4 second set against Francesco Maestrelli. The Chinese player landed only 55.6 percent of his first serves but was close to untouchable when he did, winning 85 percent of those points and firing five aces. Maestrelli was the steadier server in terms of accuracy, at 65.6 percent, with six aces and just one double fault, yet his second delivery let him down at 47.6 percent won, against 56.2 for Bu. The win moved Bu a step from the main draw.
