Montgomery rallies past Grabher to reach Cincinnati qualifying final
Robin Montgomery came from a set down to beat Julia Grabher 4-6 7-5 6-3 in the qualifying semifinals at the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati. The American's first serve was the difference once she settled: she landed 59.6% of them and won 88.7% of those points, against 54.5% and 81.2% for the Austrian. Both women struck eight aces, but Montgomery's six double faults were one fewer than Grabher's seven, and the two were near-identical behind the second delivery, 50.0% to 52.5%. The win carried Montgomery into the final qualifying round in Ohio.
