Svajda beats Mpetshi Perricard in three sets in Cincinnati qualifying

Trevor Svajda came through a match of swinging momentum to beat Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-1 1-6 6-2 in the qualifying semifinals in Cincinnati. The American dominated the opening set, was overwhelmed in the second, then reasserted himself in the decider. The serve numbers explain it: Svajda won 79.5 percent of his first-serve points and 51.9 percent behind the second, against 65.8 and 48.1 for the Frenchman, who landed just 58.5 percent of first serves. Mpetshi Perricard's eight aces to Svajda's three could not offset that gap, and Svajda earned his place in the final qualifying round.
