Kayla Day was in complete control in the Cincinnati qualifying semifinals, seeing off Australia's Taylah Preston 6-3 6-2 in straight sets. The American's serve was close to untouchable: she landed 70 percent of her first deliveries and won 96.4 percent of those points, adding five aces against just two double faults, and even her second ball held up at 75 percent. Preston, by contrast, found only 55.6 percent of her first serves, won 62.9 percent behind them and just 39.3 percent behind the second, with four double faults. The win carried Day to the final qualifying round.
