Svitolina rallies past Alexandrova in three sets in Toronto
Elina Svitolina lost the opening set 3-6 but turned the Toronto quarterfinal around completely, taking the second 6-0 and closing it out 6-3 against Ekaterina Alexandrova. The Ukrainian landed only 48.6 percent of her first serves, yet when she found them they were close to untouchable, winning 79.4 percent of those points and striking three aces despite five double faults. Alexandrova was far steadier in the box at 68.5 percent, but she won just 48 percent behind her first delivery, and that shortfall left her without a foothold once the bagel set arrived. The comeback carried Svitolina into the semifinals.
