Swiatek routs Shnaider 6-2 6-1 to reach Toronto semifinals
Iga Swiatek needed barely an hour's worth of resistance to sweep past Diana Shnaider 6-2, 6-1 in the Toronto quarterfinals, a rout from first ball to last. The Pole was close to untouchable behind her first delivery, landing 68.4 percent of them and winning 88.5 percent of those points, so Shnaider almost never got a look at a genuine opening. The Russian put 70.9 percent of first serves in but won only 51.3 percent behind them, and just 31.2 percent on the second, with three double faults compounding the pressure. Swiatek moved into the semifinals having conceded only three games.
