Mensik downs Van de Zandschulp 6-4 7-5 in Montreal last 16
Jakub Mensik reached the Montreal quarter-finals with a controlled 6-4, 7-5 win over Botic van de Zandschulp, a straight-setter in which one break in each set was enough. The serve was the difference: Mensik struck 13 aces to his opponent's one, landed 66.7% of first deliveries and won 81% of those points, against 67.4% for Van de Zandschulp. Both men kept the errors down with two double faults apiece, and the second-serve numbers stayed close at 47.6% to 45%. For Mensik, holding serve so comfortably on a quick hard court turned a tight second set his way.
